Bel Air, April 13-15

The ISARIA team thanks the Harford Grapplers, its wrestlers, the parents, Ron Garvin and Haswell Franklin for being such wonderful hosts
- we hope to see you in Bavaria in 2005! -

Another day of wrestling!. The Harford Grapplers hosted the ISARIA team and both the wrestling and social events became a great success. The Germans arrived from NY on a rainy Tuesday afternoon and they enjoyed northern Maryland with its rolling hills, small towns and the "Friendly's" Ice cream parlor (see pictures).

After an evening of practice the wrestlers were picked up once more by their host parents. The girls stayed with Ron and Joan Garvin on their "Estate". the "Tross" moved to the usual "Room 112" in the Comfort Inn. On Wednesday morning the entire group met at Ron Garvin's estate (see pictures below) had donuts and other healthy food followed by a day of sightseeing in Baltimore, including the aquarium, was on the schedule. Baltimore was the port of immigrations for many Germans in the 19th century (such as many Hennighausens). There were certainly also a few German sounding names on the Grapplers team: Weber, Pfeifer, Lieberman, Frick ..).

first training session

Prior to the dual against the Harford Grapplers the ISARIA wrestlers stuffed themselves with all the pizza they could at Ron's house. The dual itself was exciting and exhibited wrestling at its finest. It was an unforgettable evening and the Grapplers won by a narrow margin over the ISARIA boys and girls. This event was a unique experience. After the teams had marched in with thoer national flags and the playing of the anthems forty matches were wrestled on two mats. Sally Baum introduced all the wrestlers with their credentials, which was quite impressive.

Both teams harbored County and State Champs and the competition brought out the best in them - congratulations to all wrestlers

Bel Air wrestlers - who are they?

For the first time on the USA tour Pia Rosenkranz had a girl to wrestle. Jen Chu (4x Pennsylvania State Champion, Freestyle Jr Nat'l Champion and Montreal International Freestyle Champion) was very tough and Pia, the four time German Champion, prevailed 5:3 after a fine match- congratulations Pia, for a job well done. Pia's lost her second match by points against Mike Long, a Maryland State Runnerup and Member of the Maryland National Freestyle Team.

Pia's brother Toni Rosenkranz won against Evan Bulger, a member of the Maryland Nat'l Freestyle Team and student at the US Military Academy. In his second match he lost against Chuck Crocken, a Maryland State Qualifier and Member of the Maryland Freestyle National Team. Korbi Kohler had to "battle" Eren Civan the probably most talented wrestler in Maryland (according to Ron Garvin). Eren, a Junior at Walt Whitman, won State in 2004. The technically superb match ended 6:4 for Korbi. Korbi lost his second match against the strong Justin Cohen (no info available on him). Korbi's brother Mathias Kohler lost 0:10 against Matt Cross, the no. 1 in the Upper Chesapeake Wrestling League.
